For reasons yet unknown

installation of cyanoprints and silver gelatin prints, 2018

For reasons yet unknown is an installation of cyanoprints and silvergelatinprints created during an artist in residence in Itoshima, Japan. The cyanoprinting technique was the first form of photography that resulted in the first photo book that was created by Anna Atkins. The book she created was “Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions”, a documentation of British algae in 1843.

“For reasons yet unkown” is a documentation of things that are found on the shores of the ocean of Japan in 2018. Things left behind, empty bottles, lost lighters, fish nets, empty shells and a lot of plastic. The installation functions as a documentation of the present day sea creatures, registered with the same technique that was used by Anna Atkins.
