Studio: Hamerstraat 2

1993, Amsterdam (NL)

I obtained my BFA at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2016 and since then I am working from my studio in Amsterdam and from residency’s in Germany, Indonesia and Japan. My practice consists of a combination of technical visual experimenting and exploring different fields of knowledge.

The last years I’ve been developing my work within the fields of painting/printmaking/filmmaking and a juxtaposition of these media. The altars of my family guided me to Javanese culture and the colonial past of the Netherlands and Indonesia. I studied rituals and founded on those, I composed my own choreographies that conceived silver gelatin prints. The light sensitive paper allowed for the act and its documentation to become one. The most monumental print is “Ten meters of evidence”, referring to the visual historical evidence that is intrinsically bound to the architecture, photography and art.

Visual-anthropology, meaning to study the effects of visual entities on culture, society and people, is at the core of my practice. In my most recent work I’ve explored how visual stimulation can relate to emotions and temper. This has led to the work “Six lucid sensibilities”, each one of the screens corresponding to a different neurotransmitter. Related to this is the work “Video-essays on a psychotic mind”, an attempt of a visual logbook of a psychosis.

Upcoming:

10th of February 2019 at 15.00 screening “Video-essays on a psychotic mind” and in conversation with Prof. Dr. Jim van Os at Prospects&Concepts at Art Rotterdam
